What's That Smell?

Let's Talk Aromatherapy!

Diffuser

Diffuser

My Mom was having trouble sleeping at night. I told her to go grab a diffuser and some lavender essential oil. Before she goes to bed, add water to the diffuser and add 5 drops or less of the lavender oil. Allow the smell to fill the room and close your eyes. She called me the next morning and said, "that actually worked." Notice the shade behind the word actually! I've received many side eyes to my natural remedies that "actually" work. But let's stay focused! The smell of lavender has a calming effect on the body and will help induce sleep. Understanding what your body needs can help you choose the right scents for you. Sense Of Smell

The sense of smell is the most primitive of all our senses and it is linked to some of the oldest and deepest parts of the brain. As we breathe in the aromas of the essential oils, it can trigger emotional and even physical responses and allow vivid memory recall of people or places." Essential oils are derived from plants and are one of natures way of helping us out!

Orange Energy Shower Steamer

Orange Energy Shower Steamer

I recently started using shower steamers in the mornings. If you don't know what they are or haven't used one before, they are similar to bath bombs. Place the steamers near the waterfall of the shower so its not directly under the water but still feels the splash. Once the splashes begin to touch the steamer, it releases the aromatic scent. I've been using the scent of oranges. Citrus smells interact with your body by providing energy. I found this to be super easy when I need extra energy to start my day or a relaxing moment at night when I don't have time for a bath. Below are some essential oils and how they can be used.

Basic Essential Oil Scents and when to use:

  • Lavender & Eucalyptus - Calming

    • Use when you need help relaxing, anxious, or stressed

  • Citrus (Lemon, oranges, grapefruit) - Energy

    • Use when you need to feel energized

  • Peppermint & Rosemary - Clarity, Energy

    • Use to help regain focus, relieves headaches, natural energizer

  • Tea Tree & Oregano - Fights off viruses

    • Use when you need extra help fighting off the common cold.
